🌱 Enstone Eco June Newsletter

May was a truly buzzing month for biodiversity, community spirit and exciting sightings! From Mayflies to lampreys, bird song to bird boxes, it’s been a rich time for both nature and neighbours.

📝 Get Involved – Volunteer Call

To help Enstone Eco run smoothly, we’re looking for someone to assist with basic admin, like replying to emails and managing a simple spreadsheet. If you care about nature but can’t always attend events, this is a great way to support our efforts behind the scenes. Interested? Please get in touch via email - enstoneeco@gmail.com

We are also looking for people to get involved in our in-person events, so encourage anyone with curiosity to sign up and come along!

🐟 Community in Action

We welcomed 16 enthusiastic people for our latest riverfly monitoring session, where excitement peaked when a Mayfly landed squarely on Dawn’s neon jacket! Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed ideas.

Our bird walk was another standout event — 31 species recorded! We’re considering incorporating some of these spots into the Enstone Eco walking route, as several birds are best heard in spring and early summer. Thank you to everyone who brought their binoculars and sharp ears!

🌼 Wildflowers Galore!

Wildflowers have taken centre stage this month – from our support of "No Mow May" to planting flowers at Enstone Primary. Special thanks to Kari and Jill, who returned to the school this week to plant out wildflower plug plants they’d nurtured with the children. The school’s new outdoor learning zone is coming to life! Earlier in April, Kari also helped children sow wildflower seeds – we can’t wait to see what grows.

🔥 Fireside Chats - Social Group

Some of you may know Cara, who helps run the Transition Chipping Norton group. Kari, who lives in the village and some of you may have met at our events, and Cara host monthly Fireside Socials (often hosted at Kari’s house) which are becoming a lovely shared event between our groups. These socials don’t run to a strict calendar, but if you're interested in joining the list, you can message Cara directly on WhatsApp at +44 7517 144828.

🌿 Looking Ahead - Events

📍 Riverfly Monitoring – Tuesday 18 June at 2pm in Andy and Carol Hicks’ garden.

📍 Coffee & Cake with guided tour of the churchyard  – Saturday 21 June, 10-12pm, St Kenelm’s Church

Meanwhile, Enstone Eco continues to grow and inspire. You can read our annual Parish report HERE.

  • We’ve been recognised by the Parish and District Council for helping shape the Biodiversity Policy, thanks to strong community input.

  • Our school and church partnerships remain strong, with wildflower planting, pond clearing, and bird box installations continuing to enrich our shared spaces.

Together, we’re making a meaningful difference! We are a social, fun group and encourage you to come along to the next event. Enjoy some of our recent pictures below!

Warm wishes,

The Enstone Eco Team
